The Lady Knights opened up their season with a lot of great performances on the track to finish second out of 4 teams. A familiar face led the way, while she was welcomed by a few freshman who quickly made their impact known in the scoring columns.
Eden Siples started off her junior campaign well by claiming the top spots in the 100 (12.9), the 400 (1:02), finishing fourth in the high jump (4’6″), and anchored the 1600 meter relay to a runner up finish.
Freshmen Maggie Lackey and Jolee Kellet had great first high school meets. Lackey won the 200 meter dash (27.71) and finished second to Siples in the 100 (13.1), while running a leg of the runner up 1600 relay, while also anchoring the 400 relay to a second place finish. Kellett ran to a third place finish in the 400 (1:05) and was a member of the 1600 relay as well. Freshman Ashley Roberts, finished 3rd in the high jump clearing 4’6″.
Sophomore Alysa Meyer, the fourth member of the 1600 relay, claimed a win in the Long Jump by jumping 15’2″ and also competed on the runner up 400 relay. Another sophomore, Adrienne Combs finished second to Meyer in the Long Jump by jumping 15’1″. Combs was the champion in the 300 Hurdles and finished 4th in the 100 Hurdles.
Other members of the runner up 400 relay were Mahaylee Bex, and Sonja Nelson. Bex scored in the 200 meter Dash by finishing 3rd.
The lone distance runner to score in the meet was junior Madeline Sinders who finished 4th in the 800 with a time of 2:54.
Overall, it was a great meet with a lot of outstanding performance. These young ladies competed very well and started off their season with a lot of great efforts. We look to see a lot of improvement over the next couple months.
The Knights are back in action on Tuesday night when they compete at Terre Haute North against the Patriots.
